Meet the Team
Jim is the co-inventor of the Foldscope, and has spent the last 6 years developing and field testing Foldscopes all over the world as a PhD student in PrakashLab at Stanford and now as President and CEO of Foldscope Instruments. His primary role is to lead our efforts to provide access to scientific tools across the globe.
Manu is the co-inventor of the Foldscope and co-founder of Foldscope Instruments. He is an Assistant Professor of Bioengineering at Stanford University and runs a curiosity-driven lab, where the Foldscope was first invented and developed/deployed during phase 1 of the project. Manu has led the design of the Foldscope and is its most prolific beta tester. See his many posts on our community blog, Microcosmos!
Director of Visual Content
Rebecca is the Director of Visual Content for Foldscope Instruments, emphasizing in illustration and graphic design. She has a BFA in Biomedical Art and seeks to create inspiring, meaningful visuals that capture the many wonders to be seen in the natural world.
Christine is Foldscope's Administrivia Maven: she basically does all the back office work including HR, operations and accounting. Plus, with decades of experience in IT and web development she also gets a chance now and then to edit the website and help with IT solutions. She's thrilled to be a part of such an important effort.
Director of Sales
Ken is Director of Sales for Foldscope, having joined the team in January, 2018. He was formerly head merchant for a number of retailers including Amazon.com, The Sharper Image and The Good Guys. Ken comes to the company with over 20 years of experience in worldwide sales, merchandising and supply chain management, as well as a passion for getting science into the hearts and minds of children around the world.
Social Media/Public Relations Coordinator
Skylar joins us as our Social Media/Public Relations Coordinator after graduating from Stanford University with a Master’s in Communication and a Bachelor’s in Psychology. He previously worked for AJ Tutoring and had various positions with Stanford University while a student.
Product Design and Outreach Intern
Eleanor is currently a student at Stanford University studying Bioengineering. She has joined Foldscope for a couple of quarters to get some hands on experience doing product design. She’ll be working with Jim Cybulski, our CEO, to design Foldscope 2.0 to be released in 2019.
Sales & Marketing Associate
Emily has a background in Science Communication having received her Bachelor’s in Biological Sciences and Professional Writing from UC Santa Barbara. She was previously a marketing intern at the Center for Science and Engineering Partnerships at the California NanoSystems Institute and has worked in Japan as an English language navigator.
Director of Community Engagement
Honomi is the Director of Community Engagement at Foldscope Instruments. She is a certified microscopist (trained at Merritt College) and has a BS in Environmental Science from Mills College. She has spent the last 5 years studying creeks in Oakland, CA from the perspectives of geochemistry and sustainable city planning. Honomi grew up in Japan learning origami from her mother and grandmother.
Alice's favorite Foldscoping adventures include finding a butterfly wing on her family's rental car in Japan and taking her Foldscope to the beach to look at tiny ocean organisms. She is a junior at Duke studying electrical engineering and English.
Director of Community Engagement
Max was formerly the Director of Community Engagement at Foldscope Instruments. He has a BA in Molecular Biology and English and has worked as research technician (at UCSF) and as a science communicator. He is currently pursuing a PhD at UC Berkeley.
